Why I’m over being politically correct

For me, 2015 was the year that everyone found a way to be offended at everyone for everything. If that sentence was slightly confusing and sounded dumb, THAT’S BECAUSE IT IS.

I remember ranting about this often at the beginning of 2016, praying and hoping that that whole attitude would just stay behind in 2015. Unfortunately, it seems to have only gotten worse, and honestly, I’m just over it. I used to try to tiptoe around people’s feelings and be careful what I said or what I posted on my social media outlets, endeavoring to not offend anyone in my diverse group of friends. But then I started to notice that everyone seemed to be easily offended by petty things so I slowly started posting things that reflected my positions on certain issues like abortion, gun control, and the two buffoons running in the Democratic party. Oh man, did I get hate. I had many friends comment on my posts or inbox me, attempting to show me why my views on certain issues meant I was either racist, sexist, or just flat-out “braindead” (yes, someone actually called me that).

When I wrote my Trump article, my phone blew up for days with messages and texts from people who were either furious I was supporting Trump or furious that I had written such a rude article about “the man who is going to be the savior of America,” and despite the fact I informed people my article was saturated in sarcasm, nobody seemed to notice. Apparently, satire is lost on those who are too busy being offended by everything.

In addition, I think the thing that grinds my gears the most is the liberals out there who claim to be so tolerant and accepting of everyone, despite their differences, yet are the "most intolerant out of everyone". It’s ironic, really, that the group of people making these claims are the first ones to spew hate and hurl insults. It’s also ironic that the agenda of the liberals is to protect and respect those who are different, yet if my opinion or beliefs are different, their asses become chapped. Just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t make me horrible, or unintelligent, or selfish, or hateful, or racist, or sexist, or God bless America, an “unpatriotic swine.” Honey, I’m from Texas. That’s as American as it gets. Oh, and before all the liberals reading this start seeing red and have steam coming out of their ears, let me say that it’s not all liberals…just most.

Having said all of this, I have come to the conclusion that even if you are careful about what you say and post, people will always find a way to be offended. They will specifically look for something to be upset about with what you have to say. Therefore, I’ve decided that I’m done trying to be politically correct. If you don’t like what I have to say, don’t read it. If you are offended by me, don’t follow my feeds. If you think I am racist or sexist or stupid, you don’t have to talk to me. Because chances are, if you are that thick-headed, I probably don’t want to talk to you either. Just sayin’.

Lovingly Liberal,
